Why I Only Take On a Small Number of Clients

Why I Only Take On a Small Number of Clients

Twelve Legacy Circle families a year. A deliberately limited number of portrait sessions. A waiting list rather than a wide open diary.

People sometimes find this surprising. Isn't the point of a business to take on as many clients as possible?

Not this one.

What full attention actually means.

When I take on a session, I'm not just booking a slot in a calendar. I'm committing to learning about your animal, who they are, how they move, what the relationship between you actually looks like when nobody's performing for anyone. That takes time, and it takes genuine interest.

A photographer juggling fifty sessions a month can't give each one that quality of attention. The work suffers. Not dramatically. Most clients wouldn't notice the difference between a session given seventy percent attention and one given a hundred. But I would. And the photographs would show it even if no one could quite name what was missing.

Limiting the number of clients is how I protect the quality of the work for everyone who books.

The Legacy Circle is twelve families.

Twelve, deliberately. Not because that's all the time allows, but because twelve is the number that lets me give each family the depth of attention the Legacy Circle deserves.

Four sessions across a year, spring, summer, autumn, winter. That's a relationship, not a transaction. I need to know your animal across seasons. I need to understand how they change in different light and different weather. I need to care about the story I'm building for you, which means I need the space to actually care, not just execute.

Twelve families. Full attention. That's the commitment.

What depth over volume gives you.

When you work with someone who has chosen deliberately not to overload their diary you get something that's hard to manufacture. Genuine investment. Not because I'm performing and it makes for a good sale pitch but because I have the time and the headspace to actually be invested.

I remember the details. I ask about the horse you mentioned in the discovery call. I notice when the light is doing something particular and wait for it. I think about your images after the session rather than moving straight on to the next one.

That quality of attention is what premium work actually is. Not just the technical skill. The care.

When the diary is full.

There are times when the portrait session diary is full and new enquiries go onto a waiting list. This is not a marketing tactic. It's just the reality of a business that has made a deliberate choice about how many clients it can serve well.

If you enquire and I'm fully booked I'll tell you honestly and put you on the list. And be in touch when a space opens. I won't squeeze in an extra session because the money would be useful. I'd rather do twelve sessions brilliantly than twenty adequately.

Depth over volume. Always. That's what the work requires and what you deserve.

If you'd like to find out whether there's space in the diary the discovery call is the place to start. If you want something even more indepth ask about the Heritage circle.
